I can’t think of a better way to ring in the new year than by celebrating on a beautiful island with sandy beaches and 80 degree weather. So for our first Vietnam destination, we headed out to Phu Quoc Island. There were a few minor hiccups along the way, such as the free shuttle bus not picking us up at campus, child throwing up in the van, and extreme case of motion sickness, but after eight long hours, we finally arrived at paradise.
One of the first things we noticed on the island was that there were a lot of dogs and they were all sporting huge, unneutured balls. They were roaming around like the squirrels back home. They looked really friendly but there was no way I was going to pet any of them in fear that they would try to hump my arm.
To make a long story short, the trip was amazing. We met up with some new friends that teach English at a neighboring college and celebrated the new year by drinking wine and champaign on the beach. There were tons of Russians that came to Phu Quoc Island and that played house music, which was good since I was in a fist pumping good mood. Another positive that I should mention is the full body massage I received for only $15/hour, which is an epic win in my book.
Oh, and here are images of the food. *Drool*
