Q&A: Favorite Destinations in Southeast Asia
Hey Christina! I am currently teaching English in Thailand and will also be returning to New York quite soon actually, so I am trying to plan some “before I return to the states travels.” I am wondering if you have places you definitely recommend? Things to see, etc? I have visited Vietnam and have traveled throughout Thailand. Right now I am thinking Cambodia, Indonesia and possibly Malaysia if I can afford it…Any thoughts? Thanks!
I have a few favorite spots from all the different countries. For Cambodia, you absolutely must see Ankor Wat and Ankor Thom in Siem Reap (photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cbrodzky/collections/72157623292418449/)
In Indonesia, I went to only Jakarta and Bali. You absolutely must add Bali to your destination. If there’s one place I want to revisit in Southeast Asia, it’s definitely Bali, which includes Ubud, where Elizabeth Gilbert in Eat Pray Love lived in the book!
Malaysia is an amazing country with so many different places to see. I had an amazing time in Georgetown (aka Penang), Kuala Lumpr and Kota Kinabalu (photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cbrodzky/collections/72157623499059100/)
There weren’t particular tourist places I wanted to see from each place. I just went there and walked around and thought about my itinerary once I was there. Definitely have an open mind and be spontaneous!
